Winnebago Roam Is a Wheelchair-Accessible Way to Roam Around the World

Like the kitchy new wave band The B-52s, Winnebago thinks it’s always a good idea to roam around the world. Hence the release of its newest camper van, the Roam. The Ram ProMaster-based camper van marks Winnebago’s latest foray into the accessibility space, joining the Winnebago Inspire and Adventurer AE in the company’s model line. Whereas those motorhomes are bigger Class A recreational vehicles with prices that start north of $250,000, the Roam is a more manageable Class B RV with a cost-of-entry that will likely come close to that of the $112,133 Winnebago Solis, as both the Roam and entry-level Solis cast 237.0-inch shadows.

This means Winnebago’s wheelchair-accessible van ought to drive like a compact car relative to the aforementioned buslike Inspire and Adventurer AE models. While the Roam’s Braun UVL wheelchair lift and wheelchair tie downs, as well as its wheelchair-accessible wet bath and control placements, may separate it from the camper conversion company’s other ProMaster-based models, little else does. As such, the Roam includes a power-operated sofa bed with sleeping space for two, a galley kitchen, a flip-up dinette, and an integrated heater and air-conditioning system. There’s also an optional pop-top roof, which adds sleeping space for another two individuals.

Look for the Winnebago Roam to go on sale this fall. Although we imagine a handful of Roams might (ahem) roam out of Winnebago’s factory using the 2021 Ram ProMaster as a base (as seen in these photos), we wager it’s only a matter of time until Winnebago begins fitting its Roam kit to Ram’s updated and upgraded 2022 ProMaster.
